Hate telco bill shocks because you forgot to turn off your data and you’re not subscribed to a data plan? Maxis has just announced a “Worry-Free Surfing Promise”. You can surf the internet with no worries at all because you’ll never get charged for over RM50 for all your pay-per-use mobile internet.
The program will start from 14 July 2014. How it works is that users will be charged using block rates at RM10 for 50MB. The maximum you’ll get charged at is 5 blocks – that’s RM50/month for 250MB of data. You can still surf the internet after that at no charge at all, but your speed will be throttled.
According to Maxis, this new pay-per-use mobile internet rate is up to 98% cheaper than other operators, and the maximum rate of RM50/month is 5 times lower than other local operators.
Before you proceed to start surfing on your mobile phone, do note that it will only take place after 14 July 2014. Currently, pay-per-use mobile internet is charged based on 10sen/10kb. To check your data usage, just dial *100*7# on your phone, or *136*9# and select <check status>. Your quota will be refreshed at your next bill cycle.
